THEIR LOVE STORY
A serial is a publishing format that breaks down a larger work of narration into sequential installments for publication in magazines or newspapers. Serials were popular in the late 1800s, and early 1900s, and even appeared in the Montevideo American News in the 1920s. This is the final week of a six-week series of serials written by author and Montevideo native Arthur Norby.

Faith Column: Pentecost
It seems like Pentecost should get more attention than it does -- both in the church and in the world at large. I am sure that there are faith traditions that do Pentecost more justice than Lutherans, but it isn’t exactly a household name. It probably doesn’t help that the event was beyond Luke’s descriptive powers (there is a sound like the wind and tongues as of fire), so the religious artwork depicting Pentecost makes the Apostles look like a group of birthday candles. Pentecost also loses out because many who might ask why the paraments are red have already begun their summer vacation from church. Whatever the case may be, the fact remains that the Holy Spirit made a dramatic entrance into an international crowd that had gathered in Jerusalem, including some 120 followers of Jesus.
CURE applauds PUC decision to exert authority over hazardous CO2 pipelines
In a recent decision, the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) unanimously voted that it has existing authority over carbon dioxide (CO2) pipelines. Summit Carbon Solutions and Navigator Ventures LLC each have proposed multistate CO2 pipeline projects that will cross Minnesota. As these pipelines will be transporting highly pressurized CO2 in a hazardous state, the PUC will need to permit the routes. The PUC agreed with the positions of CURE (Clean Up the River Environment) and other organizational partners, Tribes, and labor unions—it’s in the best interest of Minnesotans for the currently proposed or any future CO2 pipelines to have state-level review and oversight.

Warm-up expected for the weekend, thunderstorms possible
We are learning more details about the severe thunderstorms that hit Minnesota on Memorial Day in parts of western and northern Minnesota. Celeste Edenloff, from the Echo Press, and I toured the storm damage in the city of Forada with Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach, along with Sen.

News from Milan
Was that horrible series of storms just last Monday? If you don’t live in the area, you’re lucky, I guess. Several tornadoes and horrific straight line winds. Although I didn’t go down the basement, at the height of the storm, I thought I should have. I was sitting in the living room watching the trees bending. I am thankful that I was one of the lucky ones. A couple of weed trees were topped and I lost a few shingles. People near me lost big trees and had sheds blown down. As I pick up branches and sticks from my lawn I need to remember how I was spared. I am thankful that no lives were lost.

Pride of the Pacific
On June 18th, the Ray Fagen Memorial Airshow returns to the Fagen Fighters WWII Museum after a hiatus due to the pandemic. Every airshow held at the Fagen Fighters WWII Museum has a theme, and Diane Fagen, notes this year’s chosen theme centers around the Navy and is titled the Pride of the Pacific. “The reason we chose that is because of the 80th anniversaries that are coming up,” Fagen says. For example, Monday of this week was the anniversary of D-Day, a day with additional significance to the Fagen family, as Ron Fagen’s father Ray was in the 4th infantry and one of the first wave of soldiers to exit the boat onto Utah Beach in France. While Ray was not a part of the planning of the museum, he was, Diane says, the inspiration behind it. “He wasn’t a pilot in the war, he was in the 4th infantry, but then he flew immediately after getting out,” she says. In November of 1994, Ron Fagen purchased the first WWII-era plane, a P-51 Mustang named “Sweet Revenge”, and since that time the collection grew into what today is an expansive WWII Museum.
