Heritage Days held over the weekend

The annual Heritage Days event was held Friday and Saturday at Heritage Hill in rural Montevideo. The event hosted a variety of activities centered around life in he early days, including exhibits in a one-room school house, a restored prairie farm house, blacksmith shop, tractor displays, gas engine displays, and a daily tractor parade. This is the second year the event was moved from the traditional August date to coincide with Fiesta Days activities. Local volunteers take part in Recovery Coach training to bridge gaps in recovery community

Exactly three years ago, Bold North Recovery and Consulting hosted the first Recovery Coach Academy training in Montevideo, with six volunteers learning the CCAR curriculum. The curriculum is a five-day intensive training focused on providing skills needed to guide, mentor, and support anyone looking to enter into or sustain recovery from addiction long-term.

Annual Hunger Walk held during Fiesta Days

The annual Hunger Walk has been held during Fiesta Days since 1986, and was again held this year. The Hunger Walk is held with the help of local churches, civic organizations, and community members in order to raise funds through sponsoring walkers. Those funds are donated to the Food Shelf, the St. Martin Fund, the Backpack Program, and the Salvation Army. Participants and spectators are also encouraged to bring donations of food items for the local food shelf.

Local University of Sioux Falls graduates celebrate commencement

The University of Sioux Falls celebrated over 400 students for graduation in the spring commencement ceremony. The following students obtained recognition from University of Sioux Falls: -Seth Olson of Montevideo, is graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.

Wet spring and rising temps lead to potential for harmful algae and need to reduce pollution

Nutrients in run-off from spring rainstorms combined with persistent hot weather on the way can mean trouble for lakes across Minnesota, triggering algal blooms that can be harmful to people and pets. Recent reports of blooms already spotted across the state have led to swimming advisories. And with temperatures just now hitting the 90s and above, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) predicts that several more blooms could develop in time for the July 4 holiday weekend.

Western Fest PRCA Rodeo improves grounds ahead of annual June event

The Western Fest PRCA Stampede Rodeo returns to Granite Falls Thursday, June 23rd through Saturday, June 25th. The PRCA Rodeo is in its 33rd year, but Granite Falls had High School Rodeo going for 32 years before the Professional Rodeo, meaning Lee Mar Ranch has been home to rodeo for 65 years.

CCM Wellness Center hosts event to thank donors

CCM Wellness Center held an event on Thursday, June 9, 2022, to thank the donors who gave towards the Kids Zone indoor playground in early 2020. The event, which coincided with CCM Wellness Center’s two-year anniversary, was attended by more than 70 donors representing approximately 20 organizations and individuals who helped make the Kids Zone indoor playground.

Cooler weather on the way

We have finally broken the extreme heat that we had Sunday into Monday. Of course, the region had Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat Warnings into early Tuesday morning. At times it felt like 100 to 110 degrees across the state.
