Where is your faith?
Luke 8:25, “Then he said to them, ‘Where is your faith?’ They were terrified and amazed and said to one another, ‘Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and the water and they obey him?’”, is the conclusion of the account of Jesus calming the storm. The first question asks us to look inward in order to determine not only in what we put our faith, but also if our faith is a meaningful part of our lives. What guides our decisions and our daily lives? Are we willing to let go of our perceived self-reliance in order to lean into the strength of God, or do we see faith in God as an accessory? Do we take credit for our accomplishments and blame God for our misfortunes?
News from WRAP: LGBTQ+ and Pride Month
June is National Pride Month and is celebrated to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, formerly known as the Stonewall Riots, in Manhattan, New York. Throughout the 1960s, the police raided establishments rumored to serve members of the LGBTQ+ community, and then on June 28, 1969 police raided the Stonewall Inn, a known “private bottle bar” that LGBTQ+ individuals frequented. Within minutes bar patrons and neighborhood residents began the uprising in response to the police brutality against those that were being arrested. Hundreds of people were involved in the uprising and ensued for the next five days, six days total. New York’s Pride march this year will commemorate the 53rd anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising.
