News from Milan
What a wonderful day we had Saturday. I ended up with about an inch of rain. Beautiful, glorious rain. My crops look so happy. And I look so happy. I spent most of the day thanking God for the rain. I hear the rain was spotty, but I think every drop was precious. Sorry for those got less, happy for those who got more. We all need to be joyful. Wednesday evening was the Milan Appreciation Supper. Grilled hot dogs, baked beans, chips and lemonade were served by the merchants. This was followed by games for the kids. And a good time was had by all, I think. I helped with the serving because I enjoy seeing and talking to everyone. Charlie has a hammock in Jon’s front yard. He won it a few years ago and puts it up in the summer. I have been in it a couple of times in the past. So on Friday, I went out and laid down. The breeze was blowing enough to keep the bugs away and it was very pleasant. Of course just when I got myself situated, I had to go to the bathroom. Figures, right? So I come back out and am going to get back in. I know how to do this. I’m a pro. Next thing I knew, I was flat on my back behind the hammock. It dropped me right on my head. Pride and all that. So I picked myself up and gingerly got back into the blithering thing. Had a nice nap after that. I wasn’t too stiff the next day either.

Snell shines in Legion all-star game
Montevideo pitching ace Brady Snell had himself a day to remember in a Minnesota Legion All-Stars Showcase high school baseball prospects game last Sunday at Veterans Stadium in Bloomington. The 6-foot-1, 230-pound right-hander pitched two scoreless innings for Team White in an 8-0 loss against Team Red, allowing one hit and striking out three. “I have high standards for myself and expected to succeed,” said Snell, whose fastball was clocked in the mid-80’s. “There were no slouches in the game, pretty goodtalent, andIwaspleased with my performance. I had good command of my stuff. It was a pitcher’s duel, 1-0 for most of the game, until the end. Overall, it was a big honor to be invited.” Sixty players representing 43 communities in Minnesota participated in the event, and players were divided into four teams for one nine-inning game each. Snell was nominated by his legendary Montevideo Legion coach, Tim Epema. “I’m going all-in on baseball and would like to play at the next level, if I can get the opportunity,” said Snell, who said he will forego playing football for the Thunder Hawks to compete in a high school club league in the fall, where his team is scheduled to play up to 28 games mostly in the metro area, with weekend tournaments scheduled in Kansas City andArizona. “Baseball is my game, and we’ll see where it takes me,” said Snell, who has a 3.9 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and plans to major in pharmacy in college. “I’ve received a few emails from D2/D3 schools and visited South Dakota State.”
