Scattered showers and thunderstorms on the way

: What a weekend we had this past weekend! High temperatures on Saturday climbed into the mid to upper 60s and lower 70s across the state of Minnesota. This made it feel a bit like fall, but it was very pleasant to get out and enjoy our late summer weather. On Sunday, we saw again plenty of sunshine with highs generally in the lower 70s. However, portions of northwestern Minnesota climbed into the upper 70s and lower 80s as a warm-front pushed into the state.

Downtown business owner asks council for help with denied claim from City’s insurer

com The Gallery on First owner Bob Christensen was in attendance at the Montevideo City Council meeting last Tuesday evening to discuss an ongoing issue that has greatly affected his business. It was not Christensen’s first appearance before the council, as the problem began last year when a sink hole developed on the northwest side of the alley on the south side of the property The Gallery is situated on.

Upcoming school board vacancies create unique situation

com One of the topics of discussion at the Montevideo School Board meeting Monday evening was the upcoming vacancies on the board. The unique situation presents an unusual challenge in filling board seats to have a full, six-member board.

Levee project brings frustration to Council

com At the regular monthly meeting of the Montevideo City Council last Tuesday, one of the topics of discussion was the Levee Phase Three Project. Because the site of material used for the project did not have sufficient amounts of material available to complete the project, the Army Corps of Engineers, the engineer for the project, needed to identify a new site.

Girls swim team falls to Litchfield in close meet

Last Tuesday, the Montevideo girls swim team traveled to Litchfield, taking a 45-55 loss. Leaders in that event included Lauren Dove, who won the 200 individual medley, and Taylor Viessman, who won the 500 freestyle.

MHS Cross Country team travels to Milbank meet

At the Cross Country meet held in Milbank, South Dakota last week, Montevideo’s Christopher Diaz was 2nd in the Junior High race. Ethan Andresen was first in the JV race, and the JV team was the team champions in the JV race. The varsity boys took 6th place with Brady Andrews leading the Montevideo team in 7th place. The Thunder Hawks girls team was 8th overall. Emily Valenzuela led the girl’s team.

Tennis team takes on Minnewaska, Melrose last week

Last Tuesday, the Thunder Hawks Tennis team took on Minnewaska at home for a 2-5 loss. Leaders in that event included in doubles, Ashley Klaassen, Annie Marquardt and in singles, Brooke Lindeman who all took home a win in the meet. On Thursday, the team played an away match against Melrose for a 2-5 West Central Conference loss. Leaders in that game included Cameron Myers, and Brooke Lindeman who took home victories in singles. Thunder Hawk volleyball team takes on BOLD

Last Tuesday, the Montevideo Volleyball team took on Minnewaska in a home game for a loss, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-14. Leaders in the game included Avery Koenen who scored 13 kills, seven digs, five ace blocks. Tenley Epema added 15 set assists, with four ace serves to the team’s tally.
