Lee sentenced for firearm incident in Clarkfield
Christopher Lee, a former Chief of Police with Upper Sioux Community Police Department, was sentenced in Yellow Medicine County Court October 5th for an incident that occurred in his home in Clarkfield last April. Additional charges of a second count of discharging a firearm, as well as charges of assault and domestic assault were dismissed.
Countryside Public Health offering Flu, Covid-19, and Covid-19 Bivalent Boosters at October Clinic dates
Countryside Public Health will be offering in-office Vaccine Clinics at their five office locations in October with Flu, Moderna Covid-19 Primary series for those 6 months and older, and Moderna Covid-19 Bivalent booster doses for those age 18 years and older.

Cool and dry weekend on the way
We have been blessed in the weather department so far this fall! We have enjoyed some great temperatures across the state over the past several days! This weekend was fantastic to get out and enjoy all of the fall colors. We saw highs in the 60s for most of the region both days with lots of sunshine! Tuesday, was an absolutely incredibledayfortemperatures as highs climbed into the mid to upper 70s for much of the region.

Parenting Time of New Horizons Crisis Center receives Community Impact Grant
The Parenting Time program of New Horizons Crisis Center has been awarded a community impact grant from the United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) of $15,000. These funds will help cover the cost of providing supervised visits and safe exchanges for estranged parents and their child(ren) to ensure safety and continue the parent-child bond. This work aligns with UWSWMN’s safety and well-being priority area.
School Board reviews MCA testing data comparisons
At Monday evening’s School Board meeting, Dr. Vera Weber, Director of Professional Development for the Montevideo School District gave a presentation on the data coming out of the MCA test scores for the district last year. “Before I even start, there’s a lot of ways to look at student growth. I don’t like to look at just one data point, but unfortunately, our Minnesota Department of Education looks at MCAs and they think that’s a good measure or metric to know where we’re at,” Weber said.

Prairie Five’s Senior dining site in Montevideo re-opens
On September 21st, a large group gathered at the Montevideo Community Center for the grand re-opening of the Prairie Five Senior Dining site. The Montevideo site was shut down due to the pandemic.

Farmhouse Kitchen to host pop-up benefitting McKinnen’s Memorial
Farmhouse Kitchen, a cottage bakery business located in rural Montevideo as well as on Green Lake, is planning to host a special pop-up event this Saturday, October 15th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on their rural Montevideo farm.

Thursday, October 13th: WoMen’s Rural Advocacy Programs 3rd annual Bids Against Abuse Silent Auction. Live event will also be held from 5-8 p.m.
