Council awards Anderson for years of service
At a brief meeting of the Montevideo City Council Monday evening, staff member Dianne Anderson, the City’s Utility Billing Clerk, was awarded for her 35 years of dedicated service. The council also discussed abatement of nuisance properties - an issue that has been continuously addressed at council meetings in recent months as the council and City Staff work to address issues of collected building materials, junk vehicles and more on properties.

Hearts, Hooves and Heroes event held at Lee-Mar Equine Center
The annual Hearts, Hooves, and Heroes event was held at Lee-Mar Equine Center and Ranch on Friday, September 29th in order to honor all of the organization’s hardworking and dedicated volunteers. The event started with a cookout, followed by a short awards ceremony where there was a myriad of folks receiving recognition for all they do at the ranch, with others, and of course with the horses. The dinner reception and awards ceremony was held at the indoor arena at the ranch where it ended around 7 p.m.
Montevideo to match up against Rockford in Mid-State game Friday
Montevideo will match up well against host Rockford in their Mid State Red high school football game Friday night, Thunder Hawks coach David Vik said Tuesday afternoon. “They’re a little deeper than us, but physically we’re pretty evenly matched,” said Vik of the Rockets (3-2), who overpowered host Minnewaska 43-0 last Friday to improve to 3-1 in the conference.

Janice Hovland, 85, of Montevideo passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Luther Haven Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Monday, October 3, 2022, at Hazel Run Lutheran Church.

JoAnne I. Peterson, 84, of Glenwood died Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Glenwood Retirement Village.

Mildred “Millie” Lanes
Mildred “Millie” Lanes of Montevideo passed away Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Montevideo hospital at the age of 99. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at 1:30 p.m.
Jeffrey Moe
Jeffrey Moe died Saturday, October 1, 2022, at his home in Dawson at the age of 67. Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Kendall Stelter officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 13 at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. There will also be visitation at the church for one hour before the service on Friday.

Waunita Joan Kanten
Waunita Joan Kanten of rural Milan passed away from this life Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at the Benson Hospital, at the age of 87. Funeral services were held Monday, October 3, 2022, at 1:30 p.m.
