DNR grants help children get outside, begin a lifetime of outdoor experiences
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is pleased to announce another phase of the No Child Left Inside grants. These grants help more children cast a line, study animal tracks, hike or bike, or simply learn more about nature.
Ways people with disabilities can search hunting opportunities
Hunters with disabilities can learn more about hunting opportunities by visiting the DNR website — information about accessible hunting, fishing, camping and more is available on the Accessible Outdoors page (mndnr.gov/Accessible_Outdoors).
MnDOT offers $650,000 in grants for schools, communities to develop Safe Routes to School programs
Minnesota communities and schools seeking to develop safer places for students to walk and bicycle can apply for $650,000 in grant opportunities through the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School program.

What a wonderful week we have had. After a couple cold mornings, the sun has warmed us up nicely. Again, it makes it hard to decide what to wear when I get up in the morning. I shed layers all day long. I’ll put up with that as long as it stays warm in the afternoon. I planted several hosta plants earlier in the fall. A generous friend was thinning out her patch, so I raised my hand and said, “Pick me”.

Memory Care Corner:
Even though I was unable to attend the Montevideo Area Memory Loss Network (MAMLN) event in person, I understand the Oct. 5th event was a HUGE success! According to Gretchen Reeves, chairperson of the group, 200 people attended the afternoon session and an estimated 90 people came for the 6 p.m.
Sarah Vonderharr a finalist for “Outstanding Contributions to Public Health Education”
On October 19, 2022, the Minnesota Society for Public Health Education (MNSOPHE) announced the awardee for the “Outstanding Contributions for Public Health Education” award. Chippewa County’s very own, Sarah Vonderharr, was a top finalist for this honorable award for her significant contributions to public health education in Yellow Medicine County.
Pheasant numbers increase after favorable spring weather
Pheasant numbers in Minnesota increased 18% from 2021, and exceeded the 10-year average by similar amount, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ annual roadside pheasant survey.
Upcoming sign-up event to be held for energy cooperative
A new cooperative solar garden in the area is hosting a meeting to provide local citizens with information, and the ability to sign up to be a part of the cooperative on October 27th. The meeting will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
