“You shall love the Lord Your God with all your heart and soul and mind and your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:30-31)

As we think about being thankful, I am thankful for a warm house and a place to call home. However, not everyone has this. I have been on the St. Martin’s Board, which is a committee that is supported by area churches to help those in need. Normally, we have donations around that $10,000.00 mark and use this to help people with housing, heat, lights, water and all those things that make a place home. We realized however that there is a bigger need and that is for Transitional Housing. We now have a committee of Montevideo residents working on the issues of homelessness. Now, you do not see people out on the street corner with little signs like in the twin cities, but we do have people living in cars and in warm open buildings at night and sleeping on friends’ couches. We have found working with Prairie Five that nearly every working day of every month they work with someone who is homeless or facing homelessness. We hope to help that as this community group moves forward.

Beyond Reason

People are Dying To Get in There October was a lot of skeletons and zombies and ghosts and it made me realize that Halloween omits an important step before the afterlife. The transition.

Prairie Notebook

If you think gardening ends with the first frost of autumn, well you haven’t gardened much - at least not if you don’t consider winterizing your plot part of the green thumb timeline. Recently several friends and I took on the task of adding soil builders to our community garden.

From the Editor’s Desk

jstolen-jacobson@cherryroad.com In the third grade, our class started a school newspaper. At the time, I was a student in Redwood Falls Elementary School, but I distinctly remember the first article I wrote, titled “Tom Terry and his one man band”.

News from Milan

We celebrated another week without any snow. We sure could use more than a little rain, though. Never satisfied. Too little of this. Too much of that. But. I’m really trying to just be thankful for what I have. I guess I’ll have to continue working on that.
