Looking up into the lofty, leafless crowns of our city trees, have you noticed the round clumps of leaves gathered together in the forks of some of the branches? You might think they were remnants of bird nests but since birds don’t use leaves to construct there nests - what are they?

A Life in Art gallery to close December 18th with celebration of Franz Allbert Richter’s life
Clarkfield artist Franz Allbert Richter passed away Friday, December 2nd at the age of 80 years old. This Sunday, a celebration of Franz’s life will be held at the Madison Mercantile, where there is an exhibit currently on display of his work.

Superintendent gives update on Fine Arts Center
Montevideo Schools Superintendent Wade McKittrick uploaded a video to YouTube last week as a part of his “Superintendent Stream” series to give the community an update on the demolition of the Fine Arts Center. In the video, McKittrick has a representative from the company completing the demolition on hand to provide additional information.
CWD hunt offers deer hunters additional harvest opportunities
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Deer hunters seeking additional opportunities will have the opportunity to harvest deer in a late-season chronic wasting disease management hunt in deer permit area 184 near Bemidji, and also in several deer permit areas in southeastern Minnesota and the south metro area. This late-season hunt is Friday, Dec.


Aus competes in rounds of the NFR
On the third night of the National Finals Rodeo, when nastiest bareback horses were on display, Tanner Aus made a little mistake, and it cost him. On Night 4, he made a bigger mistake and suffered a no-score, virtually taking him out of any shot for this year’s world championship.

Snow and cold weather on the way
A winter storm moved into Minnesota late Monday into Tuesday. This system brought freezing rain and snow to the state of Minnesota and has caused traveling difficulties. Warnings were posted for most of the state for difficult driving conditions.

Montevideo HS receives LYFT grant
Launch Your Future Today (LYFT) Career Pathways is a rural career and technical education pathway initiative in the 18-county service region of southwest and west central Minnesota, launched in 2018 with a legislative grant secured by the Southwest West Central (SWWC) Service Cooperative and its partners. Since then, LYFT Pathways continues to be supported through a state-wide Rural Career and Technical Education (CTE) Consortium Grant, which was passed by the Minnesota Legislature.
