Superintendent’s Corner:

Every educator’s dream is to have such a dramatic impact on students that it alters their future for the better. Montevideo Public Schools’ staff share this dream and are using its College in the School (CIS) program to do just that.

As I was driving into town this morning at ‘o dark thirty, the fog was pretty thick. It certainly throws off your perception. The evergreens were beautiful, but the deciduous trees were downright scary looking. The hoarfrost hung thick even on the roadside weeds and road signs.

Ivan Parga joins Southwest Initiative Foundation as new community engagement specialist

Ivan Parga of Worthington has joined Southwest Initiative Foundation’s (SWIF) staff as a community engagement specialist. In this role, he works to identify local strengths and challenges, build community-based skills and be a resource to the region through community-led partnerships, especially with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.

New DNR tool provides health information for thousands of lakes

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has created a new online tool, called the Watershed Health Assessment Framework for Lakes (WHAF for Lakes), providing easy access to water quality and health information for thousands of Minnesota lakes.

Thunder Hawks swim & dive team takes home victory

Montevideo’s boys swim and dive team traveled to Litchfield for a dual with Dassel-Cokato last week, taking home a victory of 100-85. Scoring from that meet follows: 200 MEDLEY RELAY – (1) Montevideo (Austin Dunn, Jacob Ochsendorf, Evan Smith, Mickey Hess) 1:48.92 200 FREESTYLE – (1) Nolan Christopher, 2:03.19 200 INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY – (2) Dunn, 2:20.29.

Thunder Hawk boys defeat ACGC, Morris/CA

Last Tuesday, the Thunder Hawks boys varsity basketball team took on Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City in an away game for a close 60-59 victory. Leaders in the game included Devin Ashling who scored 19 points, while Mason Jerve and Griffin Epema both added another 12 points each to the team total.

Gold Dusters compete at YME Invitational

The Montevideo Gold Dusters Junior Varsity and Varsity jazz and kick teams took part in theYellow Medicine East Invitational that was 422 dancers strong over the weekend. Among the 20 teams with nearly 75 routines completed throughout the day on Saturday, the Varsity Kick team placed 8th, Varsity Jazz team placed 6th, Junior Varsity Kick team placed 4th, and Junior Varsity Jazz team placed 12th.
