Dale Oakland of Granite Falls died Saturday, February 4, 2023, at United Hospital in St. Paul at the age of 68.

David Macziewski, 69, of Montevideo passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023. at his home surrounded by family. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2023. at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Sparta in rural Montevideo. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. David LeRoy Macziewski was born on April 22, 1953, the son of Elroy and Rosella “Sally” (Olson) Macziewski in Montevideo.

Rebecca “Becky” Thorstad, 74, of Montevideo passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Luther Haven in Montevideo. A private family service will be held at a later date.

Ronald Allen Banken, 48, of Otsego passed away unexpectedly Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 11 from 11 a.m.

Gary Retzlaff, 76, of Clara City passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 10, 2023, at 1 p.m.

Hila Zietlow, 80, of Boyd died on Monday, February 6, 2023 at St. Cloud Hospital. Visitation will be on Friday, February 17 from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m. at J.H. Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield. Funeral will be held on Saturday, February 18 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Tyro Township with visitation one hour prior at the church. Phyllis Van Binsbergen, 81, of Montevideo passed away Friday, February 3, 2023, at CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital. A Public Visitation will be held Monday, February 13, 2023, from 12 -2:30 p.m. at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo. A Private Family Funeral service will be held with burial following at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.

Record number of hikers turn out for Luminary Hike

The Friends for Lac qui Parle State Park group reported that a record number of hikers turned out for last Saturday evening’s Luminary Hike. The annual event featured a one-mile hike lined with luminaries in the dark, with hot chocolate and s’mores being served around a fire at the end of the trail. While they didn’t count the number of attendees, parking was hard to find, and they also reported running out of hot chocolate with the unexpected turnout the warmer weather brought to the State Park.

Cup ’a Joe opens micro-roastery

Cup ‘a Joe, the Montevideo coffee shop drivethrough locally owned and operated by Erik and Allison Sorenson, recently announced that they’re opening and operating their very own micro- roastery named E.M. Roasters (which they’ve named after their son).
