Montevideo boys team winners of seven of last nine games

Montevideo’s boys basketball team, winners of seven of its last nine games, to improve to 11-9, will visit MelroseArea on Friday and Dawson-Boyd Saturday. “While we don’t want to peak just yet, not before the playoffs, we’re in a good spot heading into March,” said legendary Thunder Hawks coach Derek Webb.

Common tree concerns & suitable tree replacement options for SW Minnesota

Pipestone and Murray County Extension Offices & Pipestone County Master Gardeners invite the public to an informational tree program focused on common tree diseases, pests and suitable tree species replacement options for southwest Minnesota. Homeowners, farmers and industry professionals should make plans to attend this free program presented by Regional Forestry Extension Educator Gary Wyatt. Gary will discuss the most common tree issues affecting southwest Minnesota trees, how to recognize and diagnose common diseases and pests (including Emerald Ash Borer), and learn about how drought is impacting our trees and how homeowners can help mitigate drought stress on trees. Gary will share his recommendations for tree species selection for southwest Minnesota, and which species are best suited as replacement options for yards, landscapes, and windbreaks.

Some warm up by the weekend

We have seen some fog recently once again across Minnesota with the melting of the snow and fairly light winds. This has made for some travel difficulties at times, particularily late at night and early in the morning.

School board sets May date for referendum vote

During Monday evening’s meeting of the Montevideo School Board, a resolution was passed relating to the issuance of school bonds and calling for a special election. The election giving taxpayers in the district the opportunity to vote on a referendum to make improvements to the district’s facilities, including the construction of a new high school, will be held May 9th.

Library to undergo renovation in children’s section

The Montevideo Public Library’s children’s section will be undergoing a renovation between now and June. Larissa Schwenk, the head librarian, shared that she’s hoping to have it completed by the time the summer reading program begins in June.
