The late start to the 2023 high school baseball season -- when teams will be forced to play several games each week, likely could play into Montevideo’s pitching strength, skipper Tim Epema said earlier this week. “The fields will eventually be playable, and once they are, we expect to be as competitive as any team in (Section) 3AA,” said Epema, who has built the Thunder Hawks program into a West Central Conference powerhouse in his first 15 seasons as head coach.

Resurrection of Jesus One
Matthew begins his report of the events of that first Easter: Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. (Matthew 28:1) On a still-dark Sunday morning the Marys head to Jesus’ tomb. They go there like so many of us have gone to a cemetery, not to change anything, they came “to see the tomb”. We bring flowers, they brought spices for the body. They came to mourn. They came to remember the promising man from Nazareth, the crucified and dead Jesus.

When you look at the body camera video of Nashville cops, guns drawn, dashing into the school, throwing doors open, shouting, “Shots fired, shots fired, move!” and a line of cops moving swiftly down the hall and up the stairs and shooting the attacker, you see men doing as they were trained to do, pursue a killer and take the killer out. From first call to completion of mission: 14 minutes.

Montevideo Arts & Event News
Now that spring temperatures are warming our shoulders and clearing our yards and pastures of winter snowfall, we start looking around for signs of green. My lilac bush, still stuck in a snowbank, is sporting buds. Artists bring color to our lives as well. This week I’m featuring a local fiber artist who spins and dyes threads to create wearable and visual works of art.

Memory Care Corner
I’m just curious if you enjoyed reading the “If I Get Dementia” list that I shared in my last article? As I mentioned in that article, the author of the writing is Rachael Wonderlin, an internationally- recognized dementia care expert and educator. The reading that I shared has circulated the globe many times over! In addition, Rachael has her Master’s in Gerontology and is a John Hopkins University Press threetime published author.

News from Milan
Can it really be true? The snow is melting and the sun is nice and warm. Are we really going to have a spring? Or is it just going to jump into summer? Oh, well. I’ll take whatever we get. My township road and my yard are muddy messes but that will dry and firm up soon. Now I’ll have to find something else to crab about.
