Thunder Hawk Speech team competes at Section 3A Tournament

The Thunder Hawk Speech Team had a great day competing at the Section 3A Speech Tournament on Saturday, April 15 in Redwood Falls. Four of our speakers made it to the final round in their category. Congratulations to Madison Van Binsbergen who received 4th place in Extemp Reading. Moving on to compete at the Minnesota State Speech Tournament on April 29 at Eastview High School in Apple Valley, MN are Thomas Philaya and Elisabeth Philaya who received 3rd place in Duo and Junia Fitzkappes who received 1st place in Discussion. Last Tuesday afternoon, the Montevideo Boys Tennis Team took on MACCRAY in Clara City for a 7-0 victory. Montevideo baseball team defeats Sauk Centre

Last Tuesday afternoon, the Thunder Hawks varsity boys baseball team took on the Mainstreeters for a 7-6 and 2-0 double-header victory in Sauk Centre. Leaders in the game included Brady Snell who pitched a complete game in game one with 12 strike-outs, allowing four hits, two walks, while also going 1-for-3 at bat.

Susan Riley, 74, of Granite Falls passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Clara City Care Center. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 28 at 3 p.m.

VERA MAE (ERVIN) FARRELL

Vera Mae (Ervin) Farrell, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2023, at Hospice & Community Care in Mt. Joy, Pa. She now joins her husband, Bob, of 62 years in heaven. Born in Montevideo on July 11, 1934, to Alicia Mae (Stark) and Clifford Ervin, Vera was raised on the family farm near Montevideo with her brother Howard and her four sisters, Shirley, Jean, Mary Jane, and Janice. She attended a one-room schoolhouse and later Montevideo High School. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. Vera worked at Swift Creamery in Quality Control where she met her husband, Bob, who would love her and make her laugh for the next six decades. They were married on her birthday July 11, 1959, which allowed Bob to have to only remember one special day per year as he gifted her with a dozen red roses. As a couple, they were blessed with four children, 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and countless close friends. Vera and Bob moved 10 times to six different states over the course of their marriage. Vera made every new house a loving home for her family. In retirement, they planted roots in Mountville, Pa. for over 25 years. Vera was a strong and generous woman who was dedicated to her family and friends. She treasured the time she was able to spend visiting and laughing with her friends. She was the loving support for every one of her children as they became adults and began having children of their own and then an overwhelming presence of light in the lives of her

MHS students take part in 2023 Culinary Skills Challenge

The 2023 Culinary Skills Challenge, held Wednesday, April 19th, on the Southern Minnesota State University, Marshall, campus gave students from southwest Minnesota an opportunity to learn more about food and the food industry. Approximately 250 students took part in this educational event, including 39 students from Montevideo High School.

Chippewa County Historical Society Hall of Fame inductee announced

Each year the Chippewa County Historical Society chooses an individual or couple to join the Hall of Fame. This honor is given to someone who has gone above and beyond to help the Society meet its mission of preserving and sharing the history of Chippewa County. This year’s inductees are Bob and Diane Berven of rural Milan.

Minnesota Twins offer free hats
