Music Department hosts Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

The Montevideo Music Department hosted a musical production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” at the Hollywood Theater on Friday, April 14th and Saturday, April 15th at 7 p.m. High school students Elisabeth Philaya and Nikki Salazar played the part of the Narrators with fellow student Thomas Philaya cast as Joseph.

Resurrection of Jesus Two

In Matthew 28:1-10 we see that the tomb was empty on Sunday morning because Jesus’ body was no longer dead. The stone rolled across the door of the tomb did not seal off Jesus from life and lock Him into death’s disintegration.

Flood waters reach major flooding category in Montevideo

The National Weather Service (NWS) early in the week issued flood warnings for Chippewa County. The Chippewa River near Watson was measured at 44.62 ft as of Monday, while the Minnesota River in Montevideo was rated by NWS as being in the major flooding category, with the flood stage at 14 feet. The NWS prediction service noted the measurement was expected to last until April 18th when it would begin to recede, reaching the moderate flooding stage after April 24th. On Monday afternoon, the City announced a sanitary sewer shut-off in the Smith Addition, as is done when the river level hits 18 feet. Lagoon Park is closed due to the flood waters.

SBA deadline is May 9 for non-profit organizations to apply for Disaster Loans

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is reminding private nonprofit organizations (PNPs) that May 9 is the filing deadline for federal economic injury disaster loans for losses due to the severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding that occurred May 29-30, 2022. PNPs located in the Minnesota counties of Aitkin, Big Stone, Cass, Chippewa, Crow Wing, Douglas, Grant, Itasca, Kanabec, Kandiyohi, Lac Qui Parle, Lyon, Nobles, Pine, Pope, Renville, Rock, Stevens, Swift, Todd, Traverse, Wadena and Yellow Medicine are eligible to apply. Examples of eligible non-critical PNP organizations include, but are not limited to, food kitchens, homeless shelters, museums, libraries, community centers, schools and colleges. The SBA offers federal Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) to help eligible non-critical PNP organizations meet their working capital needs such as ongoing operating expenses. Loan amounts can be up to $2 million with an interest rate of 1.875 percent and terms up to 30 years. EIDL assistance is available regardless of whether the organization suffered any physical property damage. The SBA sets loan amounts and terms based on each applicant’s financial condition.

Vicki’s Camp N Country Jam complete lineup for 2023

Vicki’s Camp N Country Jam is a “Smaller Intimate 3-day Festival” that hosts national & regional country music artists at the country setting “in the corn field”, near Redwood Falls, MN. Platinum-selling recording artist and ACM award-winning singer/ songwriter, Chris Janson, along with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, who trades on a mix of reimagined classics and newer works, were announced as headliners for the second annual festival being held on Friday and Saturday, July 7-8, 2023.

April is National Safe Digging Month, which serves as a reminder that digging without locating utility lines causes injuries, loss of life, and property damage every year.

Highway 212 resurfacing and reconstruction project begins April 24

A Minnesota Department of Transportation project to resurface Highway 212 and reconstruct through Sacred Heart gets underway Monday, April 24. Crews will begin working at Highway 212 and Renville County Road 6 under traffic for two weeks. During this time, drivers may encounter temporary lane closures and are asked to be alert for equipment entering and exiting the roadway.

Signs will be replaced on several southwest MN highways this spring

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is replacing signs this spring along several state highways in southwest Minnesota. MnDOT replaces traffic signs on a 15-year cycle to maximize efficiency. District 8 in southwest Minnesota has 32,000 signs and approximately 2,100 signs are replaced each year.
