Temperatures above average for start of weekend
We had a mixed bag of weather over the weekend around the state. At times we had sunshine, and other times we had rain and even some spotty hail embedded within some of the stronger cells. The winds also were strong as we had a Wind Advisory that went into effect on Sunday. We even had some frost early Sunday morning as temperatures fell into the low to mid 30s for overnight lows.

MPCA in need of volunteers in the local area
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is celebrating 50 years of the Volunteer Water Monitors Program this year, and is seeking to find more volunteers to help with the program’s continued success. Several high-priority stream and river sites near Granite Falls, Montevideo, Marshall and the space in between are in need of outdoor enthusiasts and those interested in protecting our state’s natural resources to volunteer for the program. Local monitoring sites include a number of areas along the Minnesota River, Chippewa River, and Spring Creek. MPCA also has an online map (QR code at the end of this article) that shows where volunteers are needed. “But also for streams, if there is not a marker on the map where it is convenient for people to monitor - say they drive over a bridge on their way to work or it runs through their back yard but there’s not a marker there - that’s ok. We need new monitoring locations all the time, so we are happy to establish a new monitoring site for somebody,” says MPCA’s Volunteer Water Monitoring Specialist Shannon Martin.
