CCM Health, Montevideo Public Schools, and others recognized by MDH

The Minnesota Department of Health recently highlighted the Montevideo Medical Academy in a February 2025 communication, recognizing the program’s success in preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals. This innovative program, a collaboration between Montevideo Public Schools, CCM Health, the Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging, and Minnesota West Community and Technical College, provides high school students with hands-on experience, industry certifications, and college credits, helping to address the growing need for healthcare workers in rural communities.

Gunlogson hits 150th win, wrestlers head to state

Last week, team UNITED wrestler Ben Gunlogson hit his 150th career win. Additionally, three wrestlers qualified for the State Wrestling Individual Tournament after Sections: Ben Gunlogson took first place, Eli Olson and Kam Sather took second place.

Lions Club fundraiser draws 177 guests

On Saturday, February 22nd, a fundraiser was held at the Montevideo American Legion by the Montevideo Noon Lions Club. There were 177 bingo players in attendance to win one of the eleven handbags.

Last weekend, my first born child returned from a deployment overseas, arriving from a warm, sandy place to upstate New York, only to be greeted with a large amount of snow, and very cold temperatures. It’s strange to be grateful for cold weather and snow, but he was.

I seldom invite friends to come to church with me and, after Sunday’s morning service that was so deeply moving, I don’t know why. If you knew a great bakery, you’d tell people. If you read a great book, you wouldn’t keep it a secret. But off I truck to the West Side of Manhattan and in the big door past the greeters, drop my two cents in the offering plate, head altarward, stop at my pew, genuflect and bow, and take my seat.

I know many of you loved the weather over the weekend and earlier this week! The conservation at church on Sunday certainly was the weather and the beautiful conditions that we are experiencing after the brutally cold spell.

University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) announces Dean’s List

The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) has announced its Dean’s List for Fall Semester 2024. Students on the Dean’s List have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher while earning a minimum of 12 letter-graded credits.

Minnesota DNR proposes bear permit area boundary revisions

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is recommending changes to several bear permit area boundaries based on input from wildlife managers and Tribal requests, as well as an effort to align boundaries with consistent landscapes such as the edges between forested and agricultural lands, and reduce agricultural conflicts.
