Warmer temps over the weekend
This has been the coldest air so far this winter season that we have been “enjoying!” We had Cold Weather Advisories last week and then we started off this week with an Extreme Cold Warning! At times we have seen wind chills down to 45 below zero across the area--now that is one cold Artic airmass!

I’ve just finished a ten-day solo tour down South as the World’s Oldest Stand-Up and it was a major adventure for an old guy with memory issues who keeps forgetting the word “cognitive” and other words of a similar sort, walking onstage every night to do ninety minutes or more freestyle in front of a big crowd, most of whom probably voted the wrong way last November, and make them laugh a lot.
Strategic Farming: Let’s talk crops! focused on navigating the corn maize
Navigating the corn maize of input costs, marketing plans and resources is challenging. Start with hybrid selection, encourages Dr. Jeff Coulter, University of Minnesota Extension corn agronomist. Find hybrid trial data from many sources that are tested in conditions like yours. Focus on the top 20% of performers. If performance is consistent, it’s likely those hybrids will perform well next year, too.

Officials at Lake Area Technical College are reminding prospective college students that the Build Dakota Scholarship application deadline is quickly approaching.
MnDOT announces winners of Name a Snowplow contest
We’re Off To See The Blizzard and Anthony Sledwards join the Minnesota Department of Transportations’ snowplow fleet as two of the eight winners in the 2024-25 Name a Snowplow contest. Governor Tim Walz joined MnDOT Commissioner Nancy Daubenberger to announce the winning names today. Nearly 23,500 voters cast a ballot in this year’s contest.
