Letter to the Editor

On Thursday, May 1, with the guidance and support from the Land Stewardship Project and the Immigrant Defense Network, I was part of a group of local community members that delivered May Day Baskets to local businesses, schools, and law enforcement. Per tradition, the basket contents included flowers, and also resources, reports, and tools regarding protecting immigrant workers, parents, and their children. Immigrants make a huge contribution to our local economy. They are essential to our local agricultural and food processing industries. Yet many are living in fear due to the Trump Administration’s threats and illegal deportation actions. The response from employers was encouraging and we are grateful for the time they took to listen and dialog. It feels good to be part of a caring community that values the contributions immigrants have made--and continue to make--to our community.
