Local students earn academic honors Spring 2025
St. Cloud Technical & Community College congratulates the following students for their academic achievement Spring 2025. They have earned recognition on the President’s List for a grade point average of 4.0 or the Dean’s list for a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.99.

Representative Michelle Fischbach has failed to stand up for Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District. Her support for the Big Beautiful Bill (BBB) — despite its devastating consequences for rural communities — reflects political loyalty over constituent needs.

Germany is efficient. France is flirtatious. Canada apologizes for being in your way, even though I don’t know anyone on their way to the North Pole other than Will Steiger. But America? If you want to understand America, skip the textbooks or history lessons. At a distance, just observe the month of July.

Question: I heard some talk about a new law of July 1st that allows motorcycles to drive through traffic. Can you explain this as a lot of my friends are talking but I can’t get the same answer from any of them.

Live Well, Age Wisely: Does my insurance plan have extra benefits I’m not using?
In the last few years, insurance companies have begun adding new extra benefits to their Medicare Advantage plans. While most have included some form of hearing, dental, and vision coverage for years, many now offer an over-the-counter allowance for qualifying purchases. Some even have special discounts or coupons for food. A number of people who have these benefits aren’t using them- because they aren’t aware that their plan includes them!
Minnesota DNR expands library pass program to provide more access to state parks and recreation areas
In partnership with over 200 libraries and bookmobiles across the state, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is expanding the popular library park pass program, which provides access to state parks and recreation areas at no cost to library patrons.

Emergency meeting held on state of Carnegie Library
Last Thursday, the Montevideo City Council held an emergency meeting on the state of Carnegie Library. The reason for the emergency meeting was concerns of public safety due to the state of the facade of the building. Bricks have been falling off of the North side.

Rubi Santacruz represents Montevideo in Aquatennial Ambassador program
The Minneapolis Aquatennial Ambassador Organization (AAO) is excited to announce that Rubi Santacruz from Montevideo will be participating in the AAO Candidate Program from July 22nd to July 28th.
