American Red Cross Blood Drive held

The American Red Cross blood drive was held at the TACC in Montevideo on Thursday, January 23, 2025. There were 68 units of blood collected, which was two over the goal for January. The total number of power red units was 19 and whole blood units was 49. There were nine deferred donors and one not sufficient product.

Ridgewater Students excel in SkillsUSA contests

Ridgewater College students from three technical programs recently competed and excelled at the annual Minnesota SkillsUSA competitions in the Twin Cities and St. Cloud. Seven Welding students from both Willmar and Hutchinson campuses qualified for nationals in Atlanta in June: two individual champions and two team champions.

Targeted Spray Technology highlighted on “Strategic Farming: Let’s talk crops”

These questions and more were highlighted during a recent UMN Extension “Strategic Farming: Let’s Talk Crops!” program. Dr. Rodrigo Werle, weed scientist with University of Wisconsin-Madison, joined moderator Ryan Miller, UMN Extension educator – crops, for a discussion on “Targeted Spray Technology”, highlighting Dr. Werle’s research around this innovative technology.

MnDOT District 8 awarded highway safety improvement funding

The Minnesota Department of Transportation announces that District 8 in southwest Minnesota, has been awarded $2,686,000 from the Highway Safety Improvement Program for three safety improvement projects within the district. HSIP is a federal-aid funding program designed to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries on public roads. The object of the program is to identify, implement and evaluate cost effective construction safety projects.

Free entrance to Minnesota state parks and recreation areas on Saturday, April 26

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is waiving vehicle permit fees at all 73 state parks and recreation areas on Saturday, April 26. This “Free Park Day” is one of four days each year on which the DNR waives the requirement for a vehicle permit at state parks and recreation areas. The four fee-free days are spread out over the year, giving people an opportunity to visit a state park for free in each season of the year.
