Author Allen Eskens to speak at Montevideo Library

Minnesota-based author Allen Eskens will visit the Montevideo Public Library on April 19th to speak about his latest novel, “The Quiet Librarian”, a blend of historical fiction and mystery that marks a departure from his previous work.
Montevideo Community Center annual report shows a busy 2024
According to Montevideo Community Center Manager Tracy Wellendorf, who presented the center’s 2024 annual report to the Montevideo City Council last week, it was another busy year for the Community Center. “This year was packed with activity,” Wellendorf told the council. The center hosted 227 rentals throughout the year, and although membership numbers have yet to return to pre-pandemic levels, down from over 250 to 212 members - Wellendorf emphasized that participation and interest in programs remains strong.

Montevideo Head Librarian highlights library’s role in community
At Monday evening’s meeting of the Montevideo City Council, Montevideo Head Librarian Larissa Schwenk was in attendance to provide the council with an annual update on the Montevideo/Chippewa County Public Library.
Band students perform in Solo/Ensemble contest

Last Saturday Montevideo Band students traveled to Benson for a Solo/Ensemble Contest. Montevideo had 12 events to perform, with 10 of them bringing home Superior ratings.
MPD closes investigation of 2023 death
On Monday morning, the Montevideo Police Department issued a press release to announce that the Montevideo Police Department along with Minnesota Bureau of Apprehension has closed its investigation into the September 18th, 2023, death of Mitchell Bruce Twite, 69, of Montevideo. The press release said, “The investigation has concluded that death of Twite was self-inflicted stab wounds.”
