Memory Care Corner: Changes in Behavior …

When Alan’s mom progressed on her Alzheimer’s journey, we witnessed changes in her behavior. After working with families as a Memory Care Coordinator, I realized that these behavioral changes can be very common due to the progressive deterioration of the brain cells caused by the disease. Even though common, these behaviors were often the most challenging aspects of the disease process.

Ask a Trooper: Opticom…

Question: My husband and I are wondering if it is true that emergency vehicles can change a light from red to green, if they need to proceed through an intersection. Is this true, or is it just a myth that people now believe to be true? Also, if this is true, how is the light triggered? Is it triggered by the flashing lights of the emergency vehicle or is it triggered through some other method?
Council reverses decision, grants 2 a.m. bar closing permit with conditions
At the August 4th meeting of the Montevideo City Council, one of the topics of discussion was consideration of a request to renew the 2 a.m. liquor license for Inn Like Flinn’s, the only establishment in the City that currently operates under extended hours. Concerns were raised about late-night incidents. A suggestion was made to require Inn Like Flinns to install a security camera if the permit were to be renewed, but the motion on the table at that point in the meeting was for outright denial. The council voted 3-2 to deny the renewal of the 2 a.m. closure, setting Flinn’s closing time at 1 a.m.

I’ve been busily working on my outside gardening skills this summer, attempting to coax life out of the dirt. For all the effort, it has resulted in one very large cherry tomato plant that seems determined to overtake the entire back yard, approximately seven carrots, a mass of lettuce, one monster basil plant and a few struggling pepper plants. There was also a frequent ritual of watering, weeding and checking for signs of life on days I didn’t have the luxury of rain taking care of those duties.

Even though I am getting tired of cutting grass, I don’t want it to quit growing. Especially if it means cold and snow. Uff. One would think, that at my age I could gracefully deal with ends and beginnings. But no.
Temps cool down over the weekend

As summer winds down and the kids return to school, it is a time to look back at this summer. Most of the state saw plenty of rain except the extreme northwest corner of Minnesota. The summer also saw some severe weather along with flooding in parts of the region.
