So far this summer, the few fishing adventures I’ve managed to be able to fit into the schedule have involved mostly catching small, not very strong fish. That was not the case last week, attempting to fish near the dam in Granite Falls. Instead, I fought multiple very large fish, with not a heavy enough line to do so.

DNR adds eight counties to deer feeding and attractant ban

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has added eight counties to a deer feeding and attractant ban to reduce the risk of chronic wasting disease spread, after CWD was detected in wild deer in new areas of the state last year.

Picture this: You buy something shiny and new that is recyclable, and then bring it home. After serving its purpose, you hope to give it a second life through recycling or some other special disposal program. Your trusty item leaves your house, gets a sorting makeover at the materials recovery facility, transforms into something fabulous (sometimes it even becomes what it was before, like aluminum cans), and then heads off to be reborn in the manufacturing world. And voilà, you’re back at square one, buying it all over again!

Dawson-Boyd Arts Association is thrilled to host three arts related events on Saturday, June 28 as part of Dawson’s annual Riverfest Weekend celebration. Activities planned are suitable for all ages so bring the family and enjoy the following events.

Montevideo TRAP team compete

Recently, 25 of the Thunder Hawks Trap Team athletes competed in the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League State Trap Shooting Tournament. The weather was a little different than last year. In 2024 the temperature was around 96 degrees. In 2025 they started the day at 53 degrees and overcast with little to no wind.
