Last week, I managed to let everyone know how awkward I can be more than once, but the best display of this happened during the artist’s reception for the exhibit that I and Jeremy Radtke both have on display at the Granite Area Arts Council. As we were both designated time to speak at this event, there was a requirement to stand in front of everyone and talk about the project. Of course, the first thing I did was let everyone know I was nervous sweating. Apparently, my nervous coping skill is to let everyone know that, indeed, I am nervous.

Montevideo votes no on school district referendum

Just twenty-three votes determined the fate of the Montevideo School District’s proposed referendum in the special election held May 9th. There were 872 yes votes, while the no votes totaled 895 with regards to question one on the ballot, a proposal to construct a new high school building, with additional construction adjustments to the Middle and High School for a total of $54,860,000. A second question on the ballot could only pass if the first question passed – the second question regarding the construction of a new Fine Arts Center that would have been constructed along with the high school building for a total of $11,335,000. That question saw a total of 866 votes yes and 897 votes no.

Thunder Hawk girls take on Benson

On Thursday, the Yellow Medicine East girls Varsity Softball team took to the field to take on Benson in a double-header. The team too a victory in game one, falling to Benson in game two. Vendors prepare to bring new goods to the 11th annual Milwaukee Road Heritage Center festival

Milwaukee Road Heritage Center is preparing to host its 11th annual craft, vendor and collectibles sale as a part of the annual Montevideo Fiesta Days activities. This year’s sale will be held on Saturday, June 17th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to the arts and crafts, there will be a model railroad exhibit on display, and the railroad museum and rail cars will be open for self-guided tours throughout the day as well. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., there will be a trackless train ride.

Campfire Conversations

We are entering, again, into a time of enjoyment of the outdoors. One thing that Jesus chose was to spend a lot of time outside. His life did not include miraculous transporting from one place to another. He chose to walk with his band-of-disciples. The three years we know he was on mission he walked a lot, getting to the next place of ministry and care.
