Gut and Back
Can your gut, your gastrointestinal system affect your back, spine, and joint health? ABSOLUTELY! Almost all disease can begin in the gut. How? Keep in mind the average American takes in 160 lbs. of sugar, 146 lbs. of wheat, and 142 lbs. of caloric sweeteners per year, resulting in an increase in diabesity, inflammation, joint pain, and back pain. Simply put, our fuel, what we eat, affects our gut microbiome. A poor microbiome leads to intestinal barrier breakdown, food allergies and sensitivities, immune system abnormalities and autoimmunity. Autoimmunity can affect our joints and our spine in the form of inflammation, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Simply taking an IBS or other gut med does not solve the issue. As chiropractors we see a trend of younger people with more premature degeneration in their spine and more neurodegenerative disorders, evidence of poor diet and lifestyle choices. It’s time to start evaluating food quality, seek health for your gut and body, rather than wait for a disease process to begin. Watch for our upcoming health education classes. Interested?
