Spring Work

Warmer temperatures are finding our patients and families outdoors yard cleaning, raking, and soon, planting. Many patients have already mentioned increased soreness, feeling out of shape, even small outdoor activity causing big pain. Here are some suggestions to keep you moving! *Remember to do a little warm up, walk around the yard for five or ten minutes or go for a short walk before you begin. *Use some of your yard work to feel the stretch. *Be patient with yourself, conquering the job in one day may not be the best option for your shoulders or back. *Hydrate up, bring that water bottle out and try to replace one pint of water for every 30 minutes you are active. *After you are done with your activities, give those muscles a gentle stretch and even consider doing a bit more stretching prior to bed. *Gel cold packs from the refrigerator are perfect to use on stressed areas for 20 min/hour to calm swelling. *Keep in mind that magnesium is an excellent natural muscle relaxant. *A warm shower in the morning followed with a bit more stretching on sore areas will help with recovery.
