Former Minnesota Farmers Union (MFU) President Doug Peterson received a meritorious service award from National Farmers Union (NFU) at its 121st anniversary convention, held March 5-7 in San Francisco.

Yet, as Minnesota continues to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, concerns about the state’s direct care workforce remain.

2023 Power of the Purse event to support Early Childhood literacy programs

Power of the Purse is an event that brings together women from throughout southwest Minnesota with a commitment to our youngest learners. Proceeds from this event support programs such as Imagination Library, Stuff the Bus school supply distribution, Born Learning Trails, and more. All money raised will support local initiatives that help prepare young children in our area for kindergarten.

Question: Is it legal to wear earplugs or headphones while driving a vehicle in Minnesota? Answer: State statue says that no person, while operating a motor vehicle, shall wear headphones or earphones that are used in both ears simultaneously for purposes of receiving or listening to broadcasts or reproductions from radios or other sound-producing or transmitting devices. A hands free device, like a Bluetooth earpiece, is legal because it is only worn in one ear.

Spring came in quietly on Monday after we enjoyed some sunshine and highs generally in the lower 30s across much of the area. Spring arrived officially at 4:24 p.m. our time on Monday with the spring equinox. This is when there is equal daylight and nighttime. In the Northern Hemisphere, it is our spring, and in the Southern Hemisphere it is the start of their fall.

Eleven years ago, Ray Martin retired, and after just a few months decided he was bored at home. When the opportunity arose to help out with the Knights of Columbus food drive for lent, Ray volunteered to bring the donations to the Neighbors United Resource Center Food Shelf. What he didn’t know at the time, was that this place would become a part of his daily life.
