4-H workshops explore young people’s leadership journey

Minnesota 4-H held the Southwest BLU and TEEL leadership workshops on February 18 at Southwest Minnesota State University for 58 youth from across our region. In February, youth from across Minnesota gathered to participate in the annual 4-H Building Leadership and Understanding (BLU) and Teens Engaged in Emerging Leadership (TEEL) workshops.

Uruguayan delegation to visit Montevideo next week

com Next week, the Ambassador of Uruguay to the United States of America, Andrés Augusto Durán Hareau will arrive in Montevideo for a two-day visit. Ambassador Andrés Augusto Durán Harea wanted to visit Minnesota to create some collaborations and exchanges, finding Montevideo, a sister-city to Montevideo, Uruguay would be a good place to start.

Local duo take lead in standard doubles in Reno

Chad Reimer (Granite Falls) and Justin Weckwerth (Montevideo) come from small towns in western Minnesota where everyone knows your name. On Tuesday night at the National Bowling Stadium, they were able to put together a score of 1,136 to take the lead in Standard Doubles at the 2023 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships, giving the bowling world the chance to know their names.

As a noun it is “the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible”; as a verb it is “to provide with light or lighting; to illuminate”; as an adjective it is “having a considerable or sufficient amount of natural light; not dark.” When we turn a light on we can see. Frederick Buechner said in his book Beyond Words, “We can’t see light itself. We can see only what light lights up, like the little circle of night where the candle flickers...”

I think most of us have come to the point in winter where we don’t maybe pay as much attention to the forecast, kind of expecting winter to be done with its wrath by now. At least, I know that’s how I’ve been functioning.

Letter to the Editor

Charities across Minnesota have heard a great deal of discussion about lawmakers possibly getting rid of electronic- pulltabs, better known as e-tabs. No bills have been filed, but legislators have said publicly the matter is on the table at the Capitol.

Pecan Pie Bars 1 cup and 1 tbsp flour 1/2 cups oatmeal 3/4 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup butter 3 eggs 3/4 cup dark corn syrup 1 cup broken pecans 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/8 teaspoon salt Mix together 1 cup flour, oats, 1/4 cup brown sugar and butter until particles are fine (with mixer, use low speed).

When I worked as a Memory Care Coordinator, people would often ask what the risk factors were for dementia. Today I thought we could review some of those risk factors – however, please keep in mind that if several of these risk factors apply to you, it certainly doesn’t mean that you will definitely get dementia.
