Having attended many sporting events over the last couple of years, I’m continually entertained by the conversations the youngest of sports fans are having during the games. Quite often, the youngest fans are crowded right up front, where the action is, and they have lots to say.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Justice Programs (OJP) distributes approximately $54 million annually in state and federal funds to programs across Minnesota providing services to crime victims. The Minnesota OJP has informed all current grantees, including WRAP (Women’s Rural Advocacy Programs), that all states are receiving VOCA reductions.

Oh, what a beautiful day Saturday was. So sunny and warmish. The days have been pleasant enough that I have hope that spring is really coming. But then we get to Sunday with mixed precipitation again. And again next weekend. Winter just won’t let go. Piffledust. And that is my final word about this winter. (At least for this week.)

EagleCam pair lays eggs
The pair of eagles in the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Nongame Wildlife Program EagleCam nest are incubating two eggs. The first egg was laid on Feb. 15 and the second on Feb. 18. No additional eggs are expected. Eggs incubate for 34 to 39 days, with both adult eagles trading food, incubation and nest protection duties. This season is the 10th year of the EagleCam, a popular annual livestream of a bald eagle nest in Minnesota. Fifteen chicks have successfully fledged from the nest in the last decade. The current female in the nest has been there for three years and, with her mates, has produced seven eggs and raised five chicks to fledging. Turkey hunting licenses on sale now
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Turkey hunters can buy their licenses for the spring 2023 season starting Wednesday, March 1. Licenses may be purchased online (mndnr.gov/buyalicense), by telephone 888-665-4236 or in person wherever hunting and fishing licenses are sold. Hunters can hunt statewide and buy licenses for any time period (A-F) over the counter.
Yellow Medicine County hires new Social Services Supervisor
com Also at the meeting, Rae Ann Keeler-Aus was in attendance to give the report from Yellow Medicine County Human Services. Of note in the report was a discussion with regards to federal funds received by multiple county agencies to assist with addressing opioid addiction issues.
