Warm weather for the weekend
Following the snow of last week, we had high pressure move-in for the weekend with light winds and lots of sunshine. With the light winds, we had some freezing frost in the morning which brought some travel concerns due to visibility down to one mile or less at times.

Local team works towards solutions for substance use in rural communities
com In the last more than 30 years since 6W Community Corrections Director Midge Christianson has been working for the agency, she has seen a shift in addiction in the local area. It’s hard to describe what the shift is, exactly, as it’s not data specific, but the driving force behind community members’ addictions, and the substances they find themselves addicted to has become more concerning.
New class to be offered to Montevideo High School students looking for careers in the medical field
com At Monday evening’s meeting of the Montevideo School Board, Superintendent Wade McKittrick gave a report on the most recent development in the school’s efforts to provide more career education opportunities in the district. High School Principal Chris Weber and Career Counselor Katie Birhanzl have been working throughout the school year on an initiative to partner with CCM Health in the way the district has recently partnered with J&D Construction, and Kibble Equipment in order to provide vocational educational opportunities.

January is National Blood Donor Month
Upcoming local bloodmobile dates give opportunity to help com January is National Blood Donor Month - not only a time the American Red Cross designates for celebrating those who donate blood, but also to raise awareness for the constant need for blood donations. “We are really grateful to those people [who donate blood] because we’re working all the time to ensure a stable blood supply,” says American Red Cross Minnesota and Dakotas region Communications Manager Sue Thesenga.

Nathan Beito, 46, formerly of Granite Falls passed away Friday, December 16 at Henderson Hospital in Henderson, Nev. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 14 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Hike by candlelight at Lac qui Parle State Park February 4th
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is hosting candlelight events across the state this winter, including one at Lac qui Parle State Park on Saturday, February 4th, 2023. Drop by any time between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to hike to the historic warming shelter as stars twinkle overhead and candles flicker in the snow.

Local hospital leader to be recognized by Minnesota Hospital Association
CCM Health’s Board chairperson, Steve Condon, will be honored at the 2023 Minnesota Hospital Association’ s (MHA) Winter Trustee Conference on Friday, January 13, 2023. Steve will be recognized by MHA for achieving the prestigious trustee certification. The certification shows that Mr. Condon has had comprehensive training on current health care trends, governance best practices, ethics, government regulations, and patient safety and quality.
