HAPPY FIRST DAY OF WINTER! and HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Tis the season on a couple of counts: welcoming back old man winter and the jolly old elf himself, St. Nick, as we head into what will probably be yet another memorable cold season here in Minnesota, especially out here on the prairies.

This past month many of us have been scurrying around looking for the perfect gift(s) to buy. Some of us have been given “lists” from our children or grandchildren – so that can make the shopping a little easier.
2023 Women in Ag Network conference February 7th
“Building Resilience on your Farm and in your Family,” the 2023 Women in Ag Network Conference will be February 7 in Willmar at the Willmar Conference Center (240 23rd Street SE, Willmar). This event will be a day of learning and networking for women involved in agriculture. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the conference program from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Minnesota fiscal year 2023 grant agreement notice of funding opportunity
The Natural Resources Conservation Service is announcing potential availability of Grant Agreements for the purpose of leveraging NRCS resources, addressing local natural resource issues, encouraging collaboration and developing Tribal and community-level conservation leadership in Minnesota. Proposals are requested from Federally recognized tribal governments for competitive consideration of grant agreement awards for projects for up to 3 years in duration for the following initiatives:
Not too late to get vaccinated against Influenza and COVID-19
With an early start to what is proving to be an intense flu and RSV season across our area, there are a lot of questions about infection, vaccines, and immunity to virus, Respiratory viruses, including influenza and RSV have been widespread across our region this season.
UMN Extension offers training to support farm families
The University of Minnesota Extension is offering training for those that work with or know farm families experiencing stress, loss or tough decisions for their family or business. Ambiguous loss and farming facilitator training will be offered at 5 locations across the state of Minnesota during January.
55+ driver discount class offered
The Minnesota Highway Safety Center will be offering 55+ Driver Discount 4-Hour Refresher Courses on the following days: -January 19th, 2023, Course #52101 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kilowatt Community Center, Granite Falls.

Southwest Initiative Foundation names Scott Marquardt next president
The Southwest Initiative Foundation Board of Directors unanimously voted Dec. 13 to approve Scott Marquardt as the foundation’s next president, effective Feb. 1, 2023. Marquardt has led SWIF’s economic development work for more than 15 years and currently serves as Senior Vice President.

Wind and cold for the holiday weekend
It sure has been cold the past few days. Despite the cold, parts of the region saw some light snow on Monday.
