I’ve had real trouble this week dressing properly. By that I mean having on the clothes that will keep me warm enough in the morning to walk the dog when it’s 40 or below and being able to shed layers later in the day when the temps reach in the high 60s. Oh, the problems of the retired.

Have you ever heard the expression of “playing the devil’s advocate?” According to the dictionary, a devil’s advocate is a person that pretends in an argument or a discussion to be against an idea or plan that a lot of people support. Last week I was visiting with a few caregivers and we were agreeing how important it is to be an advocate for our loved ones who have dementia or other illnesses.

SMSU invites students to apply for free during Minnesota State Month

Students interested in continuing their education with Southwest Minnesota State University can apply for free during Minnesota State Month. In an effort to make college more accessible, the standard processing fee is waived for applications submitted anytime during the month of October.

Montevideo households prepare for Halloween

Throughout town, some houses have been given the Halloween treatment with makeshift graveyards, large blow-ups, huge spiderwebs, lots of orange string lights, and pumpkins galore, people are ready for Spooky season and the throngs of trick-or-treaters that will be out later this month.

Upcoming special dee

Minnesota’s youth deer season will take place statewide Thursday, Oct. 20, through Sunday, Oct. 23. The season coincides with statewide teacher workshops, so many Minnesota students don’t have school during the youth season.

Montevideo takes on Minnewaska, BOLD

Last Tuesday, the Thunder Hawk’s volleyball team traveled to Glenwood to take on Minnewaska for a 0-3 loss. Leaders in the game included Tenley Epema who scored 16 set assists, while Avery Koenen scored 10 digs and 10 kills.

Montevideo tennis team takes on Morris/Chokio-Alberta

The Montevideo girls tennis team took on Morris/Chokio-Alberta in the Section 3A Playoffs in Morris last week. Leaders in the match included Cameron Myer, Brooke Lindeman, and Annie Marquardt, who all took home wins in signeles.
