Most of the locals know about “Gravity Hill” in Montevideo. It’s a location in town that appears to be going downhill, however, if you put your car in neutral about halfway “down” the hill, your car will begin to roll backwards “up” the hill.

Montevideo’s Alyssa Nelson to perform at SquidFest
Alyssa Nelson,on her ukulele, will be performing at this year’s Squid Fest in Granite Falls on Saturday, September 17th. Nelson was born in Willmar, but mainly grew up in Montevideo.

Annual Horse Power event held over the weekend
The Chippewa County Historical Society hosted their annual Horse Power Event at Swensson Farm this past Saturday. There were many examples of how life was on the homestead in the early 1900s. There was also a pumpkin patch and kid’s activities. Dan Hanen, of Montevideo who was in attendance, said, “Watching the horse-drawn potato digger was my personal favorite to watch at the event.” There were also many people enjoying tours of the house as well as touring the famous red barn on the property.

Thunder Hawks take on Morris/Chokio-Alberta
The Thunder Hawks hosted Morris/ Chokio-Alberta last Friday for a 26-48 loss. Leaders in the game included Francis O’Malley who ran 148 yards over 21 times, with three touchdowns. Complete scoring from that game follows: Montevideo (0-2) 0

Autumn Experience Series: Opportunities to enjoy the colors of fall
com Every August, the Farmers Almanac releases their winter forecast, including the forecast for fall. The season doesn’t officially begin until Thursday, September 22nd, which, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, is typically when peak fall colors begin to appear in the local area.

The DNR’s Ortonville Area Fisheries office has recently taken stock of fish species in two of our biggest area waterways, figuratively and literally. “Game fish have done very well in Marsh Lake this year with high numbers of young-ofyear crappies, walleyes, northern pike and white bass noted in our sampling,” says Chris Domeier, MN DNR Ortonville Area Fisheries Supervisor.
