So how’s your garden going these days? Better still, how’s your water bill looking? Seems the only rain we’ve had has been just a teaser, taunting us and the veggies many of us are trying to grow. Unfortunately, tho’ many backyard gardeners mean well, some don’t know what “well” means - at least when it comes to proper and sufficient water-ing of their ‘crops’.

Chippewa County horse rider participates in 4-H program with help from neighboring family
William Wamstad, now 20 years old, began participating in 4-H in 2014 at just 12 years old alongside his sister Susannah. The next year, Minnesota began offering the Challenged Rider program for people with disabilities, and William’s mother Carrie says her family’s 4-H leader, as well as friend and neighbor Kathy Johnson let them know that it may be a good fit for William.

Clarkfield Area Charter School closes
The Clarkfield Area Charter School board knew that enrollment was going to be a challenge, as the Clarkfield community, as well as the county’s population, has become smaller, and so for a while, talks have been taking place about the possible need to close the school.
Free community training workshop focused on composting, recycling & PFAS
– On August 10, Iowa Waste Reduction Center (IWRC) experts will be in Montevideo, Minnesota to provide training in composting and recycling. They will also provide information on the emerging contaminant PFAS and how it impacts Montevideo. The workshop will take place at J Harley Smith Park from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Alexandria Tech. Spring Dean’s list
Scott Berger, Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs at Alexandria Technical & Community College, recognizes individual students for academic excellence. Lee and Kim Bosch family recognized as 2022 ‘U of M Farm Family’
The Lee and Kim Bosch family of Clara City, has been named Chippewa County’s “2022 Farm Family of the Year” by the University of Minnesota. Lee and Kim were raised on family farms in Chippewa County.

Don’t miss this
My daughters used to have this toy camera when they were little. They loved taking videos and pictures of each other and of Mom and Dad. They captured some great memories with this toy. But they also caught one not so flattering moment of me.

New event provides opportunity for socialization at Community Center
On Wednesday, August 17th, the Montevideo Community Center is hosting a new event. The High Tea Luncheon will include a light meal of tea sandwiches, tea and confections, as well as piano music provided by Dennis Darling. “He’s a fantastic piano player. We’re going to have a program with a monologue and a singalong. We’re putting up a beautiful photo booth with big handmade roses we all made,” says one of the organizers, community center member Marie Pederson.
