
The Trinity
If you are a confirmation student looking for a good way to sidetrack your pastor, you could do worse than asking them to explain the Trinity. The three persons of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, can be difficult to understand individually. Many picture God as an old man who is alternately disinterestedly distant and vengeful, Jesus as a person who arrived at a stable at Christmas and was hung from a cross sometime around Easter, and the Holy Spirit as… Well, there are no secular traditions around Pentecost, so we don’t normally give much thought to the Spirit. One might also think that God became Jesus so that people could see him then became the Spirit after returning to heaven to sit next to himself and wait to come back.

This week, Cynthia Christians signed on to help with news coverage for the Advocate Tribune and Montevideo American News. Christians grew up in the Montevideo/Boyd area, and currently resides in rural Montevideo.

Minnesota West Community & Technical College Minnesota West Community & Technical College awarded students of $82,000 in scholarships last year. There are a wide variety of scholarships for new and returning students available through the Minnesota West Foundation and the Minnesota Workforce Development scholarship.

News from Milan
What a beautiful Sunday morning. I’m so glad that the day is great because my mood is on the blue side. The Milan All School Reunion is winding down with church services this morning and then it will be over. I have had such a good time rekindling old memories of time spent with my classmates. And now it’s OVER. The committee put on such a wonderful party for all of us. A mere thank you doesn’t seem like enough praise for all their hard work.

Warm stretch coming our way this weekend
It has been great to get a break from the storms since Memorial Day. However, some showers and thunderstorms did move in late Sunday night into Monday morning across parts of the state.

Live Well, Age Wisely: Protecting Medicare Dollars
Can you believe that fraud, errors, and abuse cost Medicare more than $60 billion last year? Medicare fraud is one of the most rampant forms of fraud in the US. There are a variety of ways it is committed and ultimately all taxpayers end up paying for the dishonesty of others. The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) began in 1997 and this year, for their 25th anniversary, they named June 5th as the start of National Medicare Fraud Prevention Week. Granite Falls man injured in plane crash
On 6/10/22 at about 7:03 am the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting an airplane crash east of the Granite Falls Airport in a field. The reporter said that there was a male party walking by the plane with cuts on his head. The Granite Falls Ambulance and Granite Falls Fire Department were paged to the scene along with area law enforcement. The pilot was treated at the scene and was airlifted by North Memorial Air Care to North Memorial in Robbinsdale. His medical status is unknown at this time.

Montevideo American Legion hosts first of summer roll-ins
The Montevideo American Legion hosted the first of their summer series of motorcycle and classic car roll-ins last Wednesday evening, offering a build-your-own burger bar, and drink specials. The event is scheduled to be held the second Wednesday of the month in June and July as well. Newly remodeled Cenex opens
On Thursday, June 9th, 2022 the Cenex on Hwy 7 in Montevideo officially opened back up for business after completing renovations that started on December 23rd, 2021. Manager Robin Enevoldsen said, “[We are] so thrilled to be back on the east side of town; ready and able to serve our customers.” She also said that they were able to retain all of their employees during the renovations by keeping them actively employed at their other location on the west side of town at the Travel Plaza. Enevoldsen raved about all of the employees noting that it was important to retain them because of how good they all are.
