We are into the month of June now, and schools are out and vacations have begun and it seems like summer--finally! Summer, however, won’t officially arrive until Tuesday, June 21 at 4:13 a.m. CT.

News from Milan
Because of Memorial Day on Monday, May 30, I need to write my column Wednesday. Although it has been a busy week already for me, my doings aren’t necessarily newsworthy.

Caterpillars to butterflies . . .
2022 Seniors . . . Well, here you are about to graduate. I’m sure you’re pinching yourself at the prospect of reaching your goal of the last 12 years. I think of you all as caterpillars. You’re about to leave your cocoons; your high school and homes, to emerge as butterflies and fly away to your futures. Please know that every teacher you ever had is bursting with pride at your accomplishment. They will follow your ups and downs through life. Every time your picture appears in the paper, they will say, “There’s my former student.” You will always be their kids.

Live Well, Age Wisely: Our Agrarian Culture
The second week of March 2020 stands out in my memory for two reasons. I presented at a regional conference in Marshall mid-week and remember how we were encouraged to not shake hands. By Friday, the governor had declared a state of emergency in Minnesota, and I’ll never forget the feeling of uncertainty that followed. I don’t enjoy reminiscing on those days! The conference, however, was a bright spot.

Minnesota State Community and Technical College Announces Spring 2022 Academic Honors
Minnesota State Community and Technical College has named 518 students to its President’s List and 506 students to its Dean’s List for the 2022 Spring Semester. Students on the President’s List earned a grade point average of 4.0 while completing a minimum of six college-level credits and 75 percent of the courses in which they enrolled for the semester.
