Faith Column: Challenge and Comfort

All throughout the Bible we see God challenging people to be better, to do right by their neighbors, to be more generous, more forgiving, more kind. In these many many stories, we see a similar pattern: we humans are shown to easily become greedy, meanspirited, selfish, cruel, or even just confused, scared, and lost, leading to all sorts of bad decisions, all sorts of harm to self, others, and God’s good creation. God challenges us to do better, and we need it! Limits on our greed, on our ability to harm others, helps everyone together to lead fuller happier lives – and it also helps us to live a fuller happier life ourselves!

THEIR LOVE STORY

A serial is a publishing format that breaks down a larger work of narration into sequential installments for publication in magazines or newspapers. Serials were popular in the late 1800s, and early 1900s, and even appeared in the Montevideo American News in the 1920s. This is the fourth week of a six-week series of serials written by author and Montevideo native Arthur Norby.

News from Milan

It’s been a week of cleanup and being thankful. Although I have spent lots of time picking up branches and sticks all over my yard, I had no major damage from last week’s storm. I have seen some devastating damage to buildings and groves. I had to throw out some food from my refrigerator, but nothing from my freezer. I am thinking about purchasing a generator, but haven’t made this major decision yet. 28 hours without power were boring, but doable.

2022 Montevideo Fiesta of Marching Bands

The Montevideo Band Program and the Fiesta Days Board are proud to announce the 2nd annual Montevideo Fiesta of Marching Bands. The band festival will be Wednesday, June 15th at 6:00 pm. This Fiesta Days event will showcase seven high school marching bands from around the state! Each band will perform their show three times during the mile-long route followed by an awards ceremony at the high school football field. The Montevideo Fiesta of Marching Bands is a marching band only band festival taking place Wednesday, June 15th at 6:00 pm. The band festival is a separate event from the Grande Day parade which will take place on Saturday, June 18th. The seven bands performing at this year’s band festival are The Patriots (St. Anthony Village), Fergus Falls, Lake City, Dassel-Cokato, KMS, Bemidji, and your very own Montevideo High School Marching Band. Participating bands will start the route at the corner of McKinley Ave. and S. 12th St. marching north then turning east onto Sheridan Ave. and finishing heading south on S. 17th St. concluding at the high school. Each band will perform once in each performance area marked on the parade route map. The third performance area will be the judged block. This is where all bands perform for a four-panel judge to receive feedback. All performance areas will be clearly marked for the audience and bands.

Memory Care Corner: Expectations

Since my re-diagnosis of cancer, I have been downsizing and “getting things in order.” In doing so, (and since my retirement) I have been looking through old work papers, including notes I had taken at various presentations I had attended. Recently, I ran across some notes that I feel are worthy to highlight in this column.
