Local piano students perform at Honors Concert
Seven piano students from the studio of Megan Gilles of Willmar performed in the 85th Annual Minnesota Music Teachers Association Honors Concert on May 21, 2022 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The students selected to perform from Megan’s studio were Lilyanne Pauling-Clara City, Jovial Martinez, Arianna Gilles, Zoe Gilles, Carson Stone, Natalie Jurgenson, and Hannah Javaherian-Willmar. Julia Mages from the studio of Loni Eid of Montevideo performed.

Lee-Mar Ranch Equine Center hosts Charity Barrel series
The first of four summer Charity Barrel Series was held at Lee-Mar Ranch Equine Center last Thursday. The event is held to raise funds for the 501c3 charitable organization that aims to improve the quality of life for those utilizing their therapeutic riding programs. The series was open to youth from groups labeled pee-wee and up. Additional events will be held June 8th and June 29th. On July 20th, the finals will be held. Former Willmar police officer shares story of complex PTSD at Mental Health and Suicide Awareness Walk
On Saturday afternoon, a crowd gathered at Montevideo’s Smith Park for the annual Mental Health and Suicide Awareness Walk. The event was hosted by the organizations Western Mental Health, New Directions, Lac qui Parle Local Advisory Council and the Montevideo Community Center and featured speakers Ray Stenglein and Jared Wosmek.
Three community boards meet to discuss community’s challenges
Last Thursday, three of Montevideo’s boards met in a rare occasion to discuss their thoughts on the challenges facing the community. The Montevideo Industry and Development Commission (MIDC), Economic and Development Authority (EDA), and Montevideo Community Development Committee (MCDC) gathered at the Community Center with an agenda to discuss housing, business retention and expansion, and future collaboration.

Students experience volunteering through Kids in the Community Day
Last week, students at Montevideo Schools participated in the 12th annual Kids in the Community day. For the annual event, students participate in service projects around the community. This year’s projects included cleaning up at CCM Health, the Montevideo Fire Department, United Methodist Church, Sunset Cemetery, behind Main Street, Pioneer (Heritage) Village, Smith Park, and the Chippewa County Courthouse. Montevideo Middle School principal Shawn Huntley says, “It’s a great opportunity for kids to learn the importance of service (volunteer) projects. From the Editor’s Desk
Whenever I have the opportunity to look through the newspaper’s archive books, I’m more than happy to spend hours leafing through the pages. While leafing through the Advocate Tribune archives I’ve come across classmates and photographs from my years at Yellow Medicine East. There’s even a photograph of me in the fifth grade at the school’s spelling bee.

Section 5A True Team Championships held
Last Wednesday, the Section 5A True Team Championships were held at Holdingford High School. At the event, Montevideo’s boys team ended with a score of 429, while the girl’s team had a score of 239.
