Event held in honor of Jepma
On Saturday, the Granite Falls American Legion Post #69 held a special afternoon into evening long event in memory of former manager Rob Jepma. The day included a line-up of musical performances, silent auction, and appetizers. Proceeds from the silent auction benefit Jepma’s family. Jepma passed away unexpectedly in January. He dedicated over 25 years to the Montevideo Fiesta Days celebration, earning two Commodore Awards.
New engineering firm for airport
At last week’s meeting of the Montevideo City Council,the council discussed entering into a contract with a new engineering firm for the Montevideo/Chippewa County Airport.

Above normal temps for the weekend
When my wife and I were driving around the state of Minnesota over the weekend for a family baptism, we drove by many lakes and saw varying degrees of ice on area lakes. Some have very dark ice, while others with very little ice at all.

From the Editor’s Desk
I’ve fully committed to yet another year of trying to grow vegetables and herbs. Thus, over the weekend, I carefully went through all of the seed packets, and looked up all the information on starting each individual kind of seed, figuring out which ones need to be started indoors, and which need to be put directly into the ground.

I’ve had an easy life, like canoeing down a river, one mile leads to the next, Tuesday follows Monday, obey the rules, portage around dams, don’t approach alligators unless their eyes are closed, and don’t argue with men with large eyebrows carrying shotguns.

We inch on towards spring. The sunshine this week has been wonderful, but once again the wind defeats her chance at warming us up. I’m itching for green. Grass, leaves. And flowers. My thin patience is wearing even thinner. But I’ll get over it.
